Managed by the Prison Service, owned by the Government. The Home Office has announced
(June 2004) that they will transfer management to the Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND).
It was opened in May 2002. A Napoleonic Fortress, it was converted from its former use as a Young Offenders Institute.
